About Spring

This is the one we reach for when the request is art deco. Spring keeps it simple, which is why it sits here rather than in the reserve pile. Only 17 people have saved it so far, so this is our pick rather than the crowd's. It comes from PraewDesigns. There are no reviews on it yet, so judge it by the preview and not by a score that does not exist.

Type your own words into the preview, not the designer's. Scripts are built around a sample phrase, and a double letter or an all-caps word is where they come apart. We would use it the way the listing hints — art fonts black fonts — and that is also where we would start if you are trying it for the first time. Before downloading, give the preview a full-size look and read the licence tab — two clicks, and they answer most of what the listing leaves unsaid.

How to use this font

  1. Download the font from Creative Fabrica and unzip it — you normally get OTF and TTF of the same face, plus a licence file.
  2. Install the OTF if your software gives you the choice: it carries the alternates and ligatures that make a script face look handwritten.
  3. Restart the app you design in — Canva, Photoshop, Cricut Design Space and Word all read the font list once, at launch.
  4. Read the licence before a paid job: personal and commercial use are priced apart, and a logo often needs the extended one.

The alternates are the point here — swapping one or two letters is what stops a repeated name from looking stamped. Thirty-five reviews is unusually deep…
