About Varsity League

This is the one we reach for when the request is american sports. Varsity League keeps it simple, which is why it sits here rather than in the reserve pile. Nobody has reviewed it, which we do not hold against a new file — but it does mean the preview is the only honest evidence. It comes from WNIdesign. The save count is still small at 4, so read this as our opinion and not a consensus.

If you want one use for it, take apparel design: that is the direction the designer clearly had in mind, and it is the one we would follow. Check the capitals and the spacing between them — display type lives or dies on how a short word in caps sits together. Open it big before you commit. At thumbnail size every font on this shelf looks equally good, which is the problem with thumbnails.

Search for athletic design, athletic font, athletic typography and badge font and this is the file those words land on; they are all the same font, filed under whichever phrase you happened to type. Related wording on the shelf: display, poster, headline, vintage and retro. Same shelf, different phrasing, and the sort options above work across all of it. Put next to the usual requests here — vintage fonts commercial license, display fonts, vintage fonts canva, number fonts vintage and retro canva fonts — this one covers the plain version of the job, which is the version people need most often. It is shelved with the rest of the display and poster fonts, and that is the quickest way to see what else sits in the same register before you settle on this one.

How to use this font

  1. Download the font from Creative Fabrica and unzip it — you normally get OTF and TTF of the same face, plus a licence file.
  2. Install the OTF if your software gives you the choice: it carries the alternates and ligatures that make a script face look handwritten.
  3. Restart the app you design in — Canva, Photoshop, Cricut Design Space and Word all read the font list once, at launch.
  4. Read the licence before a paid job: personal and commercial use are priced apart, and a logo often needs the extended one.
