About Bubblegum Groove

This is the one we reach for when the request is 70s font. Bubblegum Groove keeps it simple, which is why it sits here rather than in the reserve pile. It is Soho Studio's work. Only 2 people have saved it so far, so this is our pick rather than the crowd's. Unreviewed so far — read that as untested rather than as a verdict.

A display font only has to work big, so we judge it at poster size and ignore how it looks in a paragraph — that is not its job. Put it to work on birthday font first. If it survives that, it will survive whatever you had in mind next. Before downloading, give the preview a full-size look and read the licence tab — two clicks, and they answer most of what the listing leaves unsaid.

It answers to blue bubble letters, bold display font, bold font and bouncy font, and that spread of wording is worth noting: a file tagged this consistently usually behaves the way the preview suggests. People after this usually search poster, headline, vintage, retro and slab too, and the shelf is sorted so those all land in the same place. Judged against the requests we see — vintage fonts commercial license, display fonts, vintage fonts canva, number fonts vintage and retro canva fonts — this is a middle-of-the-road answer, and middle of the road is usually what the job needs. On this site it lives on the Display and Poster Fonts shelf, so it also turns up for people browsing display and poster fonts rather than searching for it by name.

How to use this font

  1. Download the font from Creative Fabrica and unzip it — you normally get OTF and TTF of the same face, plus a licence file.
  2. Install the OTF if your software gives you the choice: it carries the alternates and ligatures that make a script face look handwritten.
  3. Restart the app you design in — Canva, Photoshop, Cricut Design Space and Word all read the font list once, at launch.
  4. Read the licence before a paid job: personal and commercial use are priced apart, and a logo often needs the extended one.
