About Oat and Ember

What we like about Oat and Ember is how little it tries to be everything — it does adventure branding font, and that is the job we wanted filled on the Serif Fonts shelf. 8 saves mean nobody has tested it for you. We still think it holds up. There are no reviews on it yet, so judge it by the preview and not by a score that does not exist. Credit goes to HipFonts.

Look at the face at body-text size before you look at it big. Most serif disappointments happen at eleven point, not at forty-eight. The obvious job for it is adventure font, and obvious is right here — the file was built around that and it shows. The licence tab and the full-size preview are the whole of our due diligence here, and they take about a minute between them.

The listing files it under ancient font, bard font, book cover font and branding font — those are the words it gets found by, and between them they describe the file better than any category name does. The searches that bring people to this shelf are serif fonts and script and serif font combinations — this one sits in the middle of that group rather than off to the side of it. Its home here is Serif Fonts — open that shelf if you would rather compare a few before choosing. Related wording on the shelf: serif. Same shelf, different phrasing, and the sort options above work across all of it.

How to use this font

  1. Download the font from Creative Fabrica and unzip it — you normally get OTF and TTF of the same face, plus a licence file.
  2. Install the OTF if your software gives you the choice: it carries the alternates and ligatures that make a script face look handwritten.
  3. Restart the app you design in — Canva, Photoshop, Cricut Design Space and Word all read the font list once, at launch.
  4. Read the licence before a paid job: personal and commercial use are priced apart, and a logo often needs the extended one.
