About Thick Brush

This is the one we reach for when the request is aesthetic. Thick Brush keeps it simple, which is why it sits here rather than in the reserve pile. No reviews either way, so the preview is doing all the work on this one. The designer behind it is Pretty Glyphs. Only 4 people have saved it so far, so this is our pick rather than the crowd's.

The join between letters is the whole craft in a script face, so we look at a word with a repeated letter before judging anything else. Put it to work on alternates first. If it survives that, it will survive whatever you had in mind next. Open it big before you commit. At thumbnail size every font on this shelf looks equally good, which is the problem with thumbnails.

How to use this font

  1. Download the font from Creative Fabrica and unzip it — you normally get OTF and TTF of the same face, plus a licence file.
  2. Install the OTF if your software gives you the choice: it carries the alternates and ligatures that make a script face look handwritten.
  3. Restart the app you design in — Canva, Photoshop, Cricut Design Space and Word all read the font list once, at launch.
  4. Read the licence before a paid job: personal and commercial use are priced apart, and a logo often needs the extended one.
