About Canal Village

Most of what turns up under aesthetic fonts needs work before it is usable. Canal Village is the version that does not. It comes from BB Type Studios. Nobody has reviewed it, which we do not hold against a new file — but it does mean the preview is the only honest evidence. 8 saves mean nobody has tested it for you. We still think it holds up.

Our own plan for it is artistic fonts, because that is where this kind of font does the least arguing with you. The join between letters is the whole craft in a script face, so we look at a word with a repeated letter before judging anything else. One thing we always do and you should too: open the preview full size. A thumbnail hides exactly the detail that decides whether aesthetic fonts is really what you are getting.

Search for bakery font, bakery label fonts, bold fonts and bold script and this is the file those words land on; they are all the same font, filed under whichever phrase you happened to type. Its home here is Script and Calligraphy Fonts — open that shelf if you would rather compare a few before choosing. The searches that bring people to this shelf are script fonts, cursive numbers, fancy cursive fonts and elegant vs script font — this one sits in the middle of that group rather than off to the side of it. Nearby you will see calligraph, handwritten, hand written, signature and cursive, which is where to go if this one is nearly right but not quite.

How to use this font

  1. Download the font from Creative Fabrica and unzip it — you normally get OTF and TTF of the same face, plus a licence file.
  2. Install the OTF if your software gives you the choice: it carries the alternates and ligatures that make a script face look handwritten.
  3. Restart the app you design in — Canva, Photoshop, Cricut Design Space and Word all read the font list once, at launch.
  4. Read the licence before a paid job: personal and commercial use are priced apart, and a logo often needs the extended one.
