About Barley

Most of what turns up under beauty font needs work before it is usable. Barley is the version that does not. It comes from Misterletter.co. The save count is still small at 2, so read this as our opinion and not a consensus. Nobody has reviewed it, which we do not hold against a new file — but it does mean the preview is the only honest evidence.

If you want one use for it, take bold font: that is the direction the designer clearly had in mind, and it is the one we would follow. Type your own words in the preview box before you decide: script fonts look beautiful in the designer's sample and fall apart in all caps or with a double letter. Before downloading, give the preview a full-size look and read the licence tab — two clicks, and they answer most of what the listing leaves unsaid.

It answers to brochure font, brush font, bundle font and calligraphy font, and that spread of wording is worth noting: a file tagged this consistently usually behaves the way the preview suggests. You will find it among the script and calligraphy fonts, sorted next to everything that does roughly the same job. If none of this quite fits, the adjacent requests are script, handwritten, hand written, signature and cursive and they stay on this page. Judged against the requests we see — script fonts, cursive numbers, fancy cursive fonts and elegant vs script font — this is a middle-of-the-road answer, and middle of the road is usually what the job needs.

How to use this font

  1. Download the font from Creative Fabrica and unzip it — you normally get OTF and TTF of the same face, plus a licence file.
  2. Install the OTF if your software gives you the choice: it carries the alternates and ligatures that make a script face look handwritten.
  3. Restart the app you design in — Canva, Photoshop, Cricut Design Space and Word all read the font list once, at launch.
  4. Read the licence before a paid job: personal and commercial use are priced apart, and a logo often needs the extended one.
