About Backline
Backline is our bold fonts pick, and it is a pick rather than a default — we looked at the shelf twice before leaving it on. The save count sits at 222, and a number that size usually means the file does what its preview promises. It is Subectype's work. The listing shows 5.0 out of 5 on 5 reviews, which is better evidence than the thumbnail.
Our own plan for it is boldscript, because that is where this kind of font does the least arguing with you. Type your own words into the preview, not the designer's. Scripts are built around a sample phrase, and a double letter or an all-caps word is where they come apart. The reviews have done the testing for you; the preview is all that is left to check.
The listing files it under bold script fonts, bold signature, bold signature fonts and calligraphy fonts — those are the words it gets found by, and between them they describe the file better than any category name does. What this shelf gets asked for is script fonts, cursive numbers, fancy cursive fonts and elegant vs script font. That list is why these files are here and not some prettier ones. People after this usually search handwritten, hand written, cursive and brush too, and the shelf is sorted so those all land in the same place. You will find it among the script and calligraphy fonts, sorted next to everything that does roughly the same job.

How to use this font
- Download the font from Creative Fabrica and unzip it — you normally get OTF and TTF of the same face, plus a licence file.
- Install the OTF if your software gives you the choice: it carries the alternates and ligatures that make a script face look handwritten.
- Restart the app you design in — Canva, Photoshop, Cricut Design Space and Word all read the font list once, at launch.
- Read the licence before a paid job: personal and commercial use are priced apart, and a logo often needs the extended one.
