About Wavy Retro

Wavy Retro earned its place here for one reason: it is a straight answer to 70s font, and straight answers are rarer in this font catalogue than you would think. There are no reviews on it yet, so judge it by the preview and not by a score that does not exist. Only 8 people have saved it so far, so this is our pick rather than the crowd's. Credit goes to dmletter31.

A display face has one job: be read big. We judge it at poster size and ignore how it behaves in a paragraph, because it will never be in one. Our own plan for it is 80s font, because that is where this kind of font does the least arguing with you. We check two things before any download like this: the preview at full size, and whether the licence covers what you plan to do with it.

The listing files it under aesthetic typography, album cover font, bold posters and bold typeface — those are the words it gets found by, and between them they describe the file better than any category name does. We filed it under Display and Poster Fonts for the obvious reason, and the shelf is small enough to read end to end. The wording people arrive with is vintage fonts commercial license, display fonts, vintage fonts canva, number fonts vintage and retro canva fonts, and we would rather shelve for those requests than for how a thumbnail looks in a grid. If none of this quite fits, the adjacent requests are display, headline, vintage and slab and they stay on this page.

How to use this font

  1. Download the font from Creative Fabrica and unzip it — you normally get OTF and TTF of the same face, plus a licence file.
  2. Install the OTF if your software gives you the choice: it carries the alternates and ligatures that make a script face look handwritten.
  3. Restart the app you design in — Canva, Photoshop, Cricut Design Space and Word all read the font list once, at launch.
  4. Read the licence before a paid job: personal and commercial use are priced apart, and a logo often needs the extended one.
