About Retro Grils

The reason Retro Grils is here is 7ntypes and nothing else. It does not try to cover the next three jobs along, and we would rather it did not. The save count is still small at 73, so read this as our opinion and not a consensus. It comes from Ade (7NTypes). 5.0 out of 5 from 1 review — a small sample, but it is the sample there is.

A display font only has to work big, so we judge it at poster size and ignore how it looks in a paragraph — that is not its job. We would use it the way the listing hints — autumn fonts — and that is also where we would start if you are trying it for the first time. One thing we always do and you should too: open the preview full size. A thumbnail hides exactly the detail that decides whether 7ntypes is really what you are getting.

Filed as banner fonts and branding fonts. Tags are a rough instrument, but a consistent set like that usually means the file is what it claims. People after this usually search display, poster, headline, vintage and slab too, and the shelf is sorted so those all land in the same place. The wording people arrive with is vintage fonts commercial license, display fonts, vintage fonts canva, number fonts vintage and retro canva fonts, and we would rather shelve for those requests than for how a thumbnail looks in a grid. Its home here is Display and Poster Fonts — open that shelf if you would rather compare a few before choosing.

How to use this font

  1. Download the font from Creative Fabrica and unzip it — you normally get OTF and TTF of the same face, plus a licence file.
  2. Install the OTF if your software gives you the choice: it carries the alternates and ligatures that make a script face look handwritten.
  3. Restart the app you design in — Canva, Photoshop, Cricut Design Space and Word all read the font list once, at launch.
  4. Read the licence before a paid job: personal and commercial use are priced apart, and a logo often needs the extended one.
