About Oak Thorn
We put Oak Thorn on the Serif Fonts shelf because ancient font is the kind of thing people come here looking for, and this one answers it without a detour. It is HipFonts's work. Unreviewed so far — read that as untested rather than as a verdict. With 10 saves it has barely been seen, and that is neither a good nor a bad sign on a catalogue this size.
Serifs are for reading, so we look at a full sentence in the preview rather than a single word — the rhythm shows up only in a line of text. We would use it the way the listing hints — ancient lettering — and that is also where we would start if you are trying it for the first time. Before downloading, give the preview a full-size look and read the licence tab — two clicks, and they answer most of what the listing leaves unsaid.
The words on the listing are ancient manuscript font, book cover font, botanical display font and british medieval font, and they are worth reading as a description rather than as tags. It is shelved with the rest of the serif fonts, and that is the quickest way to see what else sits in the same register before you settle on this one. Judged against the requests we see — serif fonts and script and serif font combinations — this is a middle-of-the-road answer, and middle of the road is usually what the job needs. If none of this quite fits, the adjacent requests are serif and they stay on this page.

How to use this font
- Download the font from Creative Fabrica and unzip it — you normally get OTF and TTF of the same face, plus a licence file.
- Install the OTF if your software gives you the choice: it carries the alternates and ligatures that make a script face look handwritten.
- Restart the app you design in — Canva, Photoshop, Cricut Design Space and Word all read the font list once, at launch.
- Read the licence before a paid job: personal and commercial use are priced apart, and a logo often needs the extended one.
