About Handwriting Signature

What we like about Handwriting Signature is how little it tries to be everything — it does aesthetic font, and that is the job we wanted filled on the Script and Calligraphy Fonts shelf. It comes from Craft Artist. Unreviewed so far — read that as untested rather than as a verdict. 22 saves mean nobody has tested it for you. We still think it holds up.

Type your own words in the preview box before you decide: script fonts look beautiful in the designer's sample and fall apart in all caps or with a double letter. The obvious job for it is beauty branding font, and obvious is right here — the file was built around that and it shows. Open it big before you commit. At thumbnail size every font on this shelf looks equally good, which is the problem with thumbnails.

It answers to branding font, branding script font, business card font and calligraphy font, and that spread of wording is worth noting: a file tagged this consistently usually behaves the way the preview suggests. It is shelved with the rest of the script and calligraphy fonts, and that is the quickest way to see what else sits in the same register before you settle on this one. What this shelf gets asked for is script fonts, cursive numbers, fancy cursive fonts and elegant vs script font. That list is why these files are here and not some prettier ones. Related wording on the shelf: handwritten, hand written, cursive and brush. Same shelf, different phrasing, and the sort options above work across all of it.

How to use this font

  1. Download the font from Creative Fabrica and unzip it — you normally get OTF and TTF of the same face, plus a licence file.
  2. Install the OTF if your software gives you the choice: it carries the alternates and ligatures that make a script face look handwritten.
  3. Restart the app you design in — Canva, Photoshop, Cricut Design Space and Word all read the font list once, at launch.
  4. Read the licence before a paid job: personal and commercial use are priced apart, and a logo often needs the extended one.
