About Static Surge
What we like about Static Surge is how little it tries to be everything — it does 1980s poster font, and that is the job we wanted filled on the Sans Serif Fonts shelf. The designer behind it is HipFonts. The save count is still small at 22, so read this as our opinion and not a consensus. There are no reviews on it yet, so judge it by the preview and not by a score that does not exist.
The numerals tell you more than the letters do. A sans with weak figures will undercut every price list, date and phone number you set in it. Our own plan for it is 80s font, because that is where this kind of font does the least arguing with you. Before downloading, give the preview a full-size look and read the licence tab — two clicks, and they answer most of what the listing leaves unsaid.
If you came in looking for 80s merch font, 80s nostalgia font, analog font and analog style font, you are in the right place — the listing carries all of those, which is the clearest sign the designer built it for that job rather than retitled it afterwards. Related wording on the shelf: sans. Same shelf, different phrasing, and the sort options above work across all of it. Most of the traffic on this shelf comes in on sans serif fonts and fonts sans serif, and we picked the files on it with those requests in mind rather than by browsing prettiest-first. On this site it lives on the Sans Serif Fonts shelf, so it also turns up for people browsing sans serif fonts rather than searching for it by name.

How to use this font
- Download the font from Creative Fabrica and unzip it — you normally get OTF and TTF of the same face, plus a licence file.
- Install the OTF if your software gives you the choice: it carries the alternates and ligatures that make a script face look handwritten.
- Restart the app you design in — Canva, Photoshop, Cricut Design Space and Word all read the font list once, at launch.
- Read the licence before a paid job: personal and commercial use are priced apart, and a logo often needs the extended one.
