About Beanzo

Ask for 70s font and you get a hundred near-misses; Beanzo is one of the few that answers the question as asked. There are no reviews on it yet, so judge it by the preview and not by a score that does not exist. It is Almairatype Studio's work. Only 3 people have saved it so far, so this is our pick rather than the crowd's.

If you want one use for it, take 80s font: that is the direction the designer clearly had in mind, and it is the one we would follow. We look at the lowercase l, the capital I and the figure 1 side by side; if two of them are the same shape, the face will cause trouble. Spend the minute on the preview at full size — it is where you find out whether 70s font was the description or the aspiration.

How to use this font

  1. Download the font from Creative Fabrica and unzip it — you normally get OTF and TTF of the same face, plus a licence file.
  2. Install the OTF if your software gives you the choice: it carries the alternates and ligatures that make a script face look handwritten.
  3. Restart the app you design in — Canva, Photoshop, Cricut Design Space and Word all read the font list once, at launch.
  4. Read the licence before a paid job: personal and commercial use are priced apart, and a logo often needs the extended one.
