About Yana

What we like about Yana is how little it tries to be everything — it does apparel typography, and that is the job we wanted filled on the Display and Poster Fonts shelf. The listing shows 5.0 out of 5 on 1 review, which is better evidence than the thumbnail. The designer behind it is mail.skygroup. The save count is still small at 2, so read this as our opinion and not a consensus.

Check the capitals and the spacing between them — display type lives or dies on how a short word in caps sits together. If you want one use for it, take bold graphic t-shirt: that is the direction the designer clearly had in mind, and it is the one we would follow. One thing we always do and you should too: open the preview full size. A thumbnail hides exactly the detail that decides whether apparel typography is really what you are getting.

The listing files it under broadway marquee font, brutalist typeface, bulb light typeface and clothing brand font — those are the words it gets found by, and between them they describe the file better than any category name does. We filed it under Display and Poster Fonts for the obvious reason, and the shelf is small enough to read end to end. The neighbouring searches are display, poster, headline, vintage and retro — worth a look if this particular font is close but not quite it. Most of the traffic on this shelf comes in on vintage fonts commercial license, display fonts, vintage fonts canva, number fonts vintage and retro canva fonts, and we picked the files on it with those requests in mind rather than by browsing prettiest-first.

How to use this font

  1. Download the font from Creative Fabrica and unzip it — you normally get OTF and TTF of the same face, plus a licence file.
  2. Install the OTF if your software gives you the choice: it carries the alternates and ligatures that make a script face look handwritten.
  3. Restart the app you design in — Canva, Photoshop, Cricut Design Space and Word all read the font list once, at launch.
  4. Read the licence before a paid job: personal and commercial use are priced apart, and a logo often needs the extended one.
