About Robby

Robby earned its place here for one reason: it is a straight answer to advertising font, and straight answers are rarer in this font catalogue than you would think. With 2 saves it has barely been seen, and that is neither a good nor a bad sign on a catalogue this size. Credit goes to Wow Magic. Nobody has reviewed it, which we do not hold against a new file — but it does mean the preview is the only honest evidence.

Put it to work on apparel font first. If it survives that, it will survive whatever you had in mind next. A display face has one job: be read big. We judge it at poster size and ignore how it behaves in a paragraph, because it will never be in one. Spend the minute on the preview at full size — it is where you find out whether advertising font was the description or the aspiration.

The words on the listing are bold display, bold font, bold lettering and bold typography, and they are worth reading as a description rather than as tags. It is shelved with the rest of the display and poster fonts, and that is the quickest way to see what else sits in the same register before you settle on this one. If none of this quite fits, the adjacent requests are poster, headline, vintage, retro and slab and they stay on this page. The wording people arrive with is vintage fonts commercial license, display fonts, vintage fonts canva, number fonts vintage and retro canva fonts, and we would rather shelve for those requests than for how a thumbnail looks in a grid.

How to use this font

  1. Download the font from Creative Fabrica and unzip it — you normally get OTF and TTF of the same face, plus a licence file.
  2. Install the OTF if your software gives you the choice: it carries the alternates and ligatures that make a script face look handwritten.
  3. Restart the app you design in — Canva, Photoshop, Cricut Design Space and Word all read the font list once, at launch.
  4. Read the licence before a paid job: personal and commercial use are priced apart, and a logo often needs the extended one.
