About Retro Vibes

What we like about Retro Vibes is how little it tries to be everything — it does colorful, and that is the job we wanted filled on the Display and Poster Fonts shelf. It comes from Pakka Design Studio. Only 10 people have saved it so far, so this is our pick rather than the crowd's. No reviews either way, so the preview is doing all the work on this one.

Check the capitals and the spacing between them — display type lives or dies on how a short word in caps sits together. Put it to work on disco first. If it survives that, it will survive whatever you had in mind next. Before downloading, give the preview a full-size look and read the licence tab — two clicks, and they answer most of what the listing leaves unsaid.

How to use this font

  1. Download the font from Creative Fabrica and unzip it — you normally get OTF and TTF of the same face, plus a licence file.
  2. Install the OTF if your software gives you the choice: it carries the alternates and ligatures that make a script face look handwritten.
  3. Restart the app you design in — Canva, Photoshop, Cricut Design Space and Word all read the font list once, at launch.
  4. Read the licence before a paid job: personal and commercial use are priced apart, and a logo often needs the extended one.
