About Racken

The reason Racken is here is 70s racing font and nothing else. It does not try to cover the next three jobs along, and we would rather it did not. With 30 saves it has barely been seen, and that is neither a good nor a bad sign on a catalogue this size. It comes from letterhend. Unreviewed so far — read that as untested rather than as a verdict.

Check the capitals and the spacing between them — display type lives or dies on how a short word in caps sits together. If you want one use for it, take 80s style: that is the direction the designer clearly had in mind, and it is the one we would follow. One thing we always do and you should too: open the preview full size. A thumbnail hides exactly the detail that decides whether 70s racing font is really what you are getting.

Search for americana, americana style font, automotive logo font and bold and this is the file those words land on; they are all the same font, filed under whichever phrase you happened to type. Judged against the requests we see — vintage fonts commercial license, display fonts, vintage fonts canva, number fonts vintage and retro canva fonts — this is a middle-of-the-road answer, and middle of the road is usually what the job needs. The neighbouring searches are display, poster, headline, vintage and retro — worth a look if this particular font is close but not quite it. We keep it under Display and Poster Fonts, which is where to look if you want the rest of the display and poster fonts we have gone through.

How to use this font

  1. Download the font from Creative Fabrica and unzip it — you normally get OTF and TTF of the same face, plus a licence file.
  2. Install the OTF if your software gives you the choice: it carries the alternates and ligatures that make a script face look handwritten.
  3. Restart the app you design in — Canva, Photoshop, Cricut Design Space and Word all read the font list once, at launch.
  4. Read the licence before a paid job: personal and commercial use are priced apart, and a logo often needs the extended one.
