About Merry Tales

Merry Tales is our book pick, and it is a pick rather than a default — we looked at the shelf twice before leaving it on. It sits at 15 saves — too few to call it popular, which is exactly why it is worth a look before everyone else finds it. Nobody has reviewed it, which we do not hold against a new file — but it does mean the preview is the only honest evidence. Credit goes to StillViiStudio.

A display face has one job: be read big. We judge it at poster size and ignore how it behaves in a paragraph, because it will never be in one. Our own plan for it is boutique christmas, because that is where this kind of font does the least arguing with you. The licence tab and the full-size preview are the whole of our due diligence here, and they take about a minute between them.

The listing files it under branding, card, children and christmas — those are the words it gets found by, and between them they describe the file better than any category name does. The same shelf also answers to display, poster, headline, vintage and retro, so widen the search there before giving up on it. We keep it under Display and Poster Fonts, which is where to look if you want the rest of the display and poster fonts we have gone through. Put next to the usual requests here — vintage fonts commercial license, display fonts, vintage fonts canva, number fonts vintage and retro canva fonts — this one covers the plain version of the job, which is the version people need most often.

How to use this font

  1. Download the font from Creative Fabrica and unzip it — you normally get OTF and TTF of the same face, plus a licence file.
  2. Install the OTF if your software gives you the choice: it carries the alternates and ligatures that make a script face look handwritten.
  3. Restart the app you design in — Canva, Photoshop, Cricut Design Space and Word all read the font list once, at launch.
  4. Read the licence before a paid job: personal and commercial use are priced apart, and a logo often needs the extended one.
