About Mara
What we like about Mara is how little it tries to be everything — it does 70s lettering, and that is the job we wanted filled on the Display and Poster Fonts shelf. 1 save means nobody has tested it for you. We still think it holds up. Nobody has reviewed it, which we do not hold against a new file — but it does mean the preview is the only honest evidence. It comes from mail.skygroup.
A display font only has to work big, so we judge it at poster size and ignore how it looks in a paragraph — that is not its job. Our own plan for it is 80s retro font, because that is where this kind of font does the least arguing with you. We check two things before any download like this: the preview at full size, and whether the licence covers what you plan to do with it.
Search for action display font, classic poster font, comic book headline font and craft svg font and this is the file those words land on; they are all the same font, filed under whichever phrase you happened to type. Nearby you will see vintage and slab, which is where to go if this one is nearly right but not quite. How to use this font
- Download the font from Creative Fabrica and unzip it — you normally get OTF and TTF of the same face, plus a licence file.
- Install the OTF if your software gives you the choice: it carries the alternates and ligatures that make a script face look handwritten.
- Restart the app you design in — Canva, Photoshop, Cricut Design Space and Word all read the font list once, at launch.
- Read the licence before a paid job: personal and commercial use are priced apart, and a logo often needs the extended one.
