About Lydia

What we like about Lydia is how little it tries to be everything — it does all-caps opentype, and that is the job we wanted filled on the Display and Poster Fonts shelf. No reviews either way, so the preview is doing all the work on this one. mail.skygroup made it. It has gone unnoticed so far. We found it worth shelving anyway.

If you want one use for it, take antique pattern font: that is the direction the designer clearly had in mind, and it is the one we would follow. A display font only has to work big, so we judge it at poster size and ignore how it looks in a paragraph — that is not its job. Open it big before you commit. At thumbnail size every font on this shelf looks equally good, which is the problem with thumbnails.

The words on the listing are baroque display font, boutique logo typeface, craft svg font and cricut display font, and they are worth reading as a description rather than as tags. The neighbouring searches are poster, headline, vintage, retro and slab — worth a look if this particular font is close but not quite it. Put next to the usual requests here — vintage fonts commercial license, display fonts, vintage fonts canva, number fonts vintage and retro canva fonts — this one covers the plain version of the job, which is the version people need most often. It is shelved with the rest of the display and poster fonts, and that is the quickest way to see what else sits in the same register before you settle on this one.

How to use this font

  1. Download the font from Creative Fabrica and unzip it — you normally get OTF and TTF of the same face, plus a licence file.
  2. Install the OTF if your software gives you the choice: it carries the alternates and ligatures that make a script face look handwritten.
  3. Restart the app you design in — Canva, Photoshop, Cricut Design Space and Word all read the font list once, at launch.
  4. Read the licence before a paid job: personal and commercial use are priced apart, and a logo often needs the extended one.
