About Irina

Irina earned its place here for one reason: it is a straight answer to aztec pattern font, and straight answers are rarer in this font catalogue than you would think. 1 save means nobody has tested it for you. We still think it holds up. Credit goes to mail.skygroup. There are no reviews on it yet, so judge it by the preview and not by a score that does not exist.

Our own plan for it is boho display font, because that is where this kind of font does the least arguing with you. A display font only has to work big, so we judge it at poster size and ignore how it looks in a paragraph — that is not its job. Open it big before you commit. At thumbnail size every font on this shelf looks equally good, which is the problem with thumbnails.

It answers to book cover, branding typeface, commercial font and craft svg font, and that spread of wording is worth noting: a file tagged this consistently usually behaves the way the preview suggests. The wording people arrive with is vintage fonts commercial license, display fonts, vintage fonts canva, number fonts vintage and retro canva fonts, and we would rather shelve for those requests than for how a thumbnail looks in a grid. The neighbouring searches are poster, headline, vintage, retro and slab — worth a look if this particular font is close but not quite it. It is shelved with the rest of the display and poster fonts, and that is the quickest way to see what else sits in the same register before you settle on this one.

How to use this font

  1. Download the font from Creative Fabrica and unzip it — you normally get OTF and TTF of the same face, plus a licence file.
  2. Install the OTF if your software gives you the choice: it carries the alternates and ligatures that make a script face look handwritten.
  3. Restart the app you design in — Canva, Photoshop, Cricut Design Space and Word all read the font list once, at launch.
  4. Read the licence before a paid job: personal and commercial use are priced apart, and a logo often needs the extended one.
