About Grimspell

Grimspell is our adventure font pick, and it is a pick rather than a default — we looked at the shelf twice before leaving it on. It is Joni type's work. It sits at 6 saves — too few to call it popular, which is exactly why it is worth a look before everyone else finds it. Nobody has reviewed it, which we do not hold against a new file — but it does mean the preview is the only honest evidence.

We would use it the way the listing hints — book cover font — and that is also where we would start if you are trying it for the first time. A display font only has to work big, so we judge it at poster size and ignore how it looks in a paragraph — that is not its job. Spend the minute on the preview at full size — it is where you find out whether adventure font was the description or the aspiration.

Filed as branding font, children's font, cottagecore font and cute font. Tags are a rough instrument, but a consistent set like that usually means the file is what it claims. The neighbouring searches are display, poster, headline, vintage and retro — worth a look if this particular font is close but not quite it. Put next to the usual requests here — vintage fonts commercial license, display fonts, vintage fonts canva, number fonts vintage and retro canva fonts — this one covers the plain version of the job, which is the version people need most often. It is shelved with the rest of the display and poster fonts, and that is the quickest way to see what else sits in the same register before you settle on this one.

How to use this font

  1. Download the font from Creative Fabrica and unzip it — you normally get OTF and TTF of the same face, plus a licence file.
  2. Install the OTF if your software gives you the choice: it carries the alternates and ligatures that make a script face look handwritten.
  3. Restart the app you design in — Canva, Photoshop, Cricut Design Space and Word all read the font list once, at launch.
  4. Read the licence before a paid job: personal and commercial use are priced apart, and a logo often needs the extended one.
