About Galla

This is the one we reach for when the request is book cover font. Galla keeps it simple, which is why it sits here rather than in the reserve pile. It sits at 3 saves — too few to call it popular, which is exactly why it is worth a look before everyone else finds it. The buyers who left a word rate it 5.0 out of 5 — 1 review, all of them on the listing. The designer behind it is greenvill.

We would use it the way the listing hints — botanical display font — and that is also where we would start if you are trying it for the first time. A display face has one job: be read big. We judge it at poster size and ignore how it behaves in a paragraph, because it will never be in one. Before downloading, give the preview a full-size look and read the licence tab — two clicks, and they answer most of what the listing leaves unsaid.

Type craft svg font, cricut display font, editorial display and elegant serif font into the search above and this one comes back — the same font under four different habits of phrasing. Judged against the requests we see — vintage fonts commercial license, display fonts, vintage fonts canva, number fonts vintage and retro canva fonts — this is a middle-of-the-road answer, and middle of the road is usually what the job needs. On this site it lives on the Display and Poster Fonts shelf, so it also turns up for people browsing display and poster fonts rather than searching for it by name. The neighbouring searches are poster, headline, vintage, retro and slab — worth a look if this particular font is close but not quite it.

How to use this font

  1. Download the font from Creative Fabrica and unzip it — you normally get OTF and TTF of the same face, plus a licence file.
  2. Install the OTF if your software gives you the choice: it carries the alternates and ligatures that make a script face look handwritten.
  3. Restart the app you design in — Canva, Photoshop, Cricut Design Space and Word all read the font list once, at launch.
  4. Read the licence before a paid job: personal and commercial use are priced apart, and a logo often needs the extended one.
