About Friezy

Ask for 80s font and you get a hundred near-misses; Friezy is one of the few that answers the question as asked. Unreviewed so far — read that as untested rather than as a verdict. It comes from Font Liner. Only 2 people have saved it so far, so this is our pick rather than the crowd's.

A display face has one job: be read big. We judge it at poster size and ignore how it behaves in a paragraph, because it will never be in one. Our own plan for it is bold, because that is where this kind of font does the least arguing with you. Before downloading, give the preview a full-size look and read the licence tab — two clicks, and they answer most of what the listing leaves unsaid.

Search for bold font, bubble and bubble font and this is the file those words land on; they are all the same font, filed under whichever phrase you happened to type. If none of this quite fits, the adjacent requests are display, poster, headline, vintage and retro and they stay on this page. Put next to the usual requests here — vintage fonts commercial license, display fonts, vintage fonts canva, number fonts vintage and retro canva fonts — this one covers the plain version of the job, which is the version people need most often. It is shelved with the rest of the display and poster fonts, and that is the quickest way to see what else sits in the same register before you settle on this one.

How to use this font

  1. Download the font from Creative Fabrica and unzip it — you normally get OTF and TTF of the same face, plus a licence file.
  2. Install the OTF if your software gives you the choice: it carries the alternates and ligatures that make a script face look handwritten.
  3. Restart the app you design in — Canva, Photoshop, Cricut Design Space and Word all read the font list once, at launch.
  4. Read the licence before a paid job: personal and commercial use are priced apart, and a logo often needs the extended one.
