About Blode Starkly

The reason Blode Starkly is here is 90s retro font and nothing else. It does not try to cover the next three jobs along, and we would rather it did not. The review tab is empty. That is normal here and not a warning, but it does put the preview in charge. Only 23 people have saved it so far, so this is our pick rather than the crowd's. The designer behind it is Alit Design.

We keep it filed mentally under bubbly typeface, which is the use that needs the least adjusting afterwards. Check the capitals and the spacing between them — display type lives or dies on how a short word in caps sits together. The licence tab and the full-size preview are the whole of our due diligence here, and they take about a minute between them.

Type cartoonish typeface, decorative font, funky lettering and groovy display font into the search above and this one comes back — the same font under four different habits of phrasing. Put next to the usual requests here — vintage fonts commercial license, display fonts, vintage fonts canva, number fonts vintage and retro canva fonts — this one covers the plain version of the job, which is the version people need most often. Its home here is Display and Poster Fonts — open that shelf if you would rather compare a few before choosing. The neighbouring searches are poster, headline, vintage and slab — worth a look if this particular font is close but not quite it.

How to use this font

  1. Download the font from Creative Fabrica and unzip it — you normally get OTF and TTF of the same face, plus a licence file.
  2. Install the OTF if your software gives you the choice: it carries the alternates and ligatures that make a script face look handwritten.
  3. Restart the app you design in — Canva, Photoshop, Cricut Design Space and Word all read the font list once, at launch.
  4. Read the licence before a paid job: personal and commercial use are priced apart, and a logo often needs the extended one.
