About Alya

What we like about Alya is how little it tries to be everything — it does 70s lettering, and that is the job we wanted filled on the Display and Poster Fonts shelf. Raholco made it. Only 1 person has saved it so far, so this is our pick rather than the crowd's. The review tab is empty. That is normal here and not a warning, but it does put the preview in charge.

A display face has one job: be read big. We judge it at poster size and ignore how it behaves in a paragraph, because it will never be in one. We keep it filed mentally under 80s retro font, which is the use that needs the least adjusting afterwards. Spend the minute on the preview at full size — it is where you find out whether 70s lettering was the description or the aspiration.

Filed as anchor motif typeface, classic poster font, craft svg font and cricut display font. Tags are a rough instrument, but a consistent set like that usually means the file is what it claims. Judged against the requests we see — vintage fonts commercial license, display fonts, vintage fonts canva, number fonts vintage and retro canva fonts — this is a middle-of-the-road answer, and middle of the road is usually what the job needs. The neighbouring searches are headline, vintage and slab — worth a look if this particular font is close but not quite it. It is shelved with the rest of the display and poster fonts, and that is the quickest way to see what else sits in the same register before you settle on this one.

How to use this font

  1. Download the font from Creative Fabrica and unzip it — you normally get OTF and TTF of the same face, plus a licence file.
  2. Install the OTF if your software gives you the choice: it carries the alternates and ligatures that make a script face look handwritten.
  3. Restart the app you design in — Canva, Photoshop, Cricut Design Space and Word all read the font list once, at launch.
  4. Read the licence before a paid job: personal and commercial use are priced apart, and a logo often needs the extended one.
