About Maxima

This is the one we reach for when the request is 70s lettering. Maxima keeps it simple, which is why it sits here rather than in the reserve pile. Only 4 people have saved it so far, so this is our pick rather than the crowd's. Buyers put it at 5.0 out of 5 over 1 review; worth clicking through to see what they actually said. It comes from greenvill.

Put it to work on 80s retro font first. If it survives that, it will survive whatever you had in mind next. Check which characters really exist: decorative sets often stop at the capitals, and you find out when you need an ampersand. The licence tab and the full-size preview are the whole of our due diligence here, and they take about a minute between them.

The listing files it under antique engraved font, baroque logo typeface, classic poster font and craft svg font — those are the words it gets found by, and between them they describe the file better than any category name does. We filed it under Decorative and Dingbat Fonts for the obvious reason, and the shelf is small enough to read end to end. What this shelf gets asked for is blackletter font pairing, cinzel decorative font pairing, decorative script fonts, modern blackletter fonts and monogram fonts for cricut. That list is why these files are here and not some prettier ones. If none of this quite fits, the adjacent requests are decorative, dingbat, blackletter, colorful and colour and they stay on this page.

How to use this font

  1. Download the font from Creative Fabrica and unzip it — you normally get OTF and TTF of the same face, plus a licence file.
  2. Install the OTF if your software gives you the choice: it carries the alternates and ligatures that make a script face look handwritten.
  3. Restart the app you design in — Canva, Photoshop, Cricut Design Space and Word all read the font list once, at launch.
  4. Read the licence before a paid job: personal and commercial use are priced apart, and a logo often needs the extended one.
