About Lily

Lily is our 70s lettering pick, and it is a pick rather than a default — we looked at the shelf twice before leaving it on. It is LINEART3's work. Only 2 people have saved it so far, so this is our pick rather than the crowd's. It stands at 5.0 out of 5 across 1 review, and we read the low scores first when there are any.

A decorative face carries one word, maybe two. Set the headline you actually want in the preview before deciding it carries more. We keep it filed mentally under 80s retro font, which is the use that needs the least adjusting afterwards. Open it big before you commit. At thumbnail size every font on this shelf looks equally good, which is the problem with thumbnails.

The listing files it under botanical display font, classic poster font, craft svg font and cricut display font — those are the words it gets found by, and between them they describe the file better than any category name does. You will find it among the decorative and dingbat fonts, sorted next to everything that does roughly the same job. The neighbouring searches are decorative, dingbat, blackletter, colorful and colour — worth a look if this particular font is close but not quite it. The wording people arrive with is blackletter font pairing, cinzel decorative font pairing, decorative script fonts, modern blackletter fonts and monogram fonts for cricut, and we would rather shelve for those requests than for how a thumbnail looks in a grid.

How to use this font

  1. Download the font from Creative Fabrica and unzip it — you normally get OTF and TTF of the same face, plus a licence file.
  2. Install the OTF if your software gives you the choice: it carries the alternates and ligatures that make a script face look handwritten.
  3. Restart the app you design in — Canva, Photoshop, Cricut Design Space and Word all read the font list once, at launch.
  4. Read the licence before a paid job: personal and commercial use are priced apart, and a logo often needs the extended one.
